IMPRINT

During my Spring 2021 semester at the University of Central Florida (UCF), I was an intern for Imprint Magazine. Imprint is a student-run online publication overseen by the Department of Writing and Rhetoric. It publishes articles written by students from majors of all kinds, not just writing and rhetoric.

My internship involved me being the social media manager. This meant that I was in charge of managing and creating content for our Instagram and Twitter accounts.

Likewise, I was an editorial intern. As an editorial intern, I was responsible for communicating with my co-intern, Lindsey. Our main point of communication was through Google Docs. We occasionally met on Zoom with our faculty supervisor, Professor Deborah Weaver and held meetings on our own with just the two of us.

Our first task was to come up with a theme. We ended up choosing “What We Care About.” Our theme encompassed ideas or concepts that UCF students are passionate about. Next, we needed to create effective marketing strategies that would grab the attention of potential student writers. Once the deadline past for pitches, we received 31 pitches. Our supervisor told us that was the biggest number of pitches the publication has ever received at the time.

Our next move was choosing the pitches we wanted to see turned into an article. Articles went through one round of comprehensive edits and proofreading.

My experience at Imprint was a learning curve when it came to editing, recruiting, and content creation. This experience expanded my editing skills, put my skills as a graphic designer and creator to the test, and allowed me to brush up on my WordPress knowledge. I am grateful that I received the opportunity to intern at UCF’s Imprint Magazine because of the experience I gained from my time there as an editorial intern and social media manager.

Below are samples of the content I created for Imprint’s Instagram account.
